City Views, Country Dreams

Happy Easter from New York.

Today is gloriously sunny and warm, and so I walked over to take a look at this year's Fifth Avenue Easter Parade.  I will share some of the photographs I took this afternoon.

Lots of folks were taking photos of themselves.

The man in the red hat was ready to let you join his frame.

Extravagant hat added a festive touch to the little black dress.

Another opportunity waits....

It almost looks as it the vendor's umbrella is part of this gentleman's hat.

Quite a stylish couple.

Balloon hats were available.

That is quite a hat to have resting on one's noggin.

Eager to pose and please many photographers.

Momma is encouraging her child to pose with this willing couple.

This father and daughter were having a grand afternoon.

This gentleman will probably leave the hat at home when he returns to his office tomorrow.

Ice cream became a popular choice as the sun warmed up the crowd.

If you click on the above photo to enlarge it, you might be able to see that this lady made it from folded paper.

Several dressing styles sharing the Avenue.

Global awareness.

These cheerful fellows were passing out chocolate eggs to children.  I broke my own Lenten chocolate fast with a stop into the busy Lindt shop.  Delicious truffles!

Lots of bunny tails on this group.

Some bonnets were very chic.

Some bonnets adhered to the more is more concept.

The above chap branched out!

I am also going to post some more Easter Parade pictures over on my Instagram Page.

Meanwhile, I will close this post with a photograph of a little painting I made and sent as an Easter Card.

I wish you all a wonderfully Happy Easter, and thank you for your visits and comments.  It is my intention to be less of a lazy blogger, even though milder weather is tempting me to spend much more time outdoors

    1. Thank you Donna! The Lindt shop actually gives everyone entering the door on Easter a truffle. The rest is up to folks like me....
I did not wear a bonnet, but did wear my fair isle cardigan that is mostly robin's egg blue with other Easter egg colors throughout. It was fun to paint the auriculas. xo

But I loved best your lovely painting, which was the feast my eyes craved on this rainy Sunday.

  6. I have been looking forward to your Easter parade photos! It was quite warm here in Toronto but cloudy and threatening rain all day (we are having quite the storm at the moment). I didn't make it to the Easter parade held down in the Beach area but at least they didn't get rained out!
I look forward to some new posts in the near future. At the present we are awaiting the cherry tree blossoms (latest update this morning predicts about 10 days to go) - does Central Park have a big cherry blossom display?

    1. Glad you liked the reporting, Margie. Also glad that the rain held off here until after sunset.
Yes...lots of cherry trees blooming now in Central Park and around the city. Prospect Park in Brooklyn has an amazing Japanese garden that features those lovely trees. xo

  8. I was so hoping you would do an Easter blog post. It's so fun for me to see what people in the big city do with their spare time! I love the Magritte hat with the green apple. Thanks for going out in the beautiful weather and reporting on the Easter Sunday fashion scene. I didn't see any such thing here, (I'm in Portland Oregon at the moment) but I did see all kinds of people hiking and running on the Wildwood Trail in Forest Park. And saw lots of Trilliums and yellow violets. And many, many dogs, some of which had to be carried over the mud to avoid their newly groomed fur from getting all yucky! Hope you had a great Easter. Chocolate always helps!

As you'd appreciate, I think that many of us missed seeing Bill Cunningham yesterday. The NY Times Style section did print a selection of his Easter Parade photos. (That section is not the same without his input.)
Glad you liked the auricula. xo

I posted an older photo of Watson and thehamish in some Easter fun.
    Your card is lovely.
I didn't have one piece of Chocolate ! I tried to go to See's Candy but never made it, so I gave son a small market bought Easter treat. He was happy. I am not a fan of chocolate so I am fine also. For me a little goes a long way.

  12. What a delightful, colorful parade so pleased you took lots of photos. I love your card.
Had an Italian made Easter cake which was delicious from my daughter and some chocolate buttons from Hotel Chocolate which are nice from my grand daughter.
It's a dismal day here at the moment at Heathrow nothing on the TV worth watching so it's going to be a card making and patchwork day for me.
    Enjoy your day Frances.

    1. Thank you, Sarah. Do get those paints out. In recent years, I've sort of let my knitting's play with colors take over time I once gave to drawing and painting. I enjoy them both so much!

In return she forward the URL for a blog she follows - thought it might interest you. I visited Iceland a couple of years ago and people knit everywhere and the shops are full of beautiful yarns. 31. Dear Frances, I do apologise for taking so long to catch up so much has been going on in our tiny corner of the world so I'm only just coming up for air again. I do hope you have recovered from your injuries now - it's good to see you've been out and about. My goodness, there are some extraordinary creations among those Easter bonnets - it's not something I'll ever be able to do! (Although Bee made a wonderful Irish bonnet at nursery for St Patrick's Day so perhaps a long lost 'craft' gene has surfaced?). I must take a leisurely look at your photographs and review of the Emily Dickinson exhibition. I love her poems though know almost nothing about her life. All best to you, Cxx
