City Views, Country Dreams

Good afternoon from New York.

Once again, I'd like to thank all you folks who commented on my last post.  I really appreciated all your advice, tips and opinions.

For some time my trusty old lap top continued to chug along, laboring hard to complete the tasks I requested.  However, on March 5, 2013, it could no longer function.

I am pleased to report that I have purchased a new Apple laptop, and have had a few hours available to discover its abilities.  It's early days yet, but I am already aware that this machine and the system that runs it has certain charms.

The above picture features a Gala apple from the Union Square Farmers Market, and represents my change in technology.  This is the first photograph that I've downloaded to this machine, and I'm rather proud to have been able to figure out how to add it to this post.

I'll be attending available classes at the neighborhood Apple store and look forward to stretching my brain with the assistant of the kind and knowledgeable folks at that store.

It won't be long before I will return to showing you all more City Views.

  4. P.S.:
Btw, I am using the free OpenOffice word processing software: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenOffice
"OpenOffice contains a word processor (Writer), a spreadsheet (Calc), a presentation application (Impress), a drawing application (Draw), a formula editor (Math), and a database management application (Base).[8]
OpenOffice's default file format is the OpenDocument Format (ODF), an ISO/IEC standard. It can also read a wide variety of other file formats, with particular attention to those from Microsoft Office."

  15. Selfishly we comment that our Mac
has been running 24/7 since 2005 and
just a prefect time now for you to learn a few tricks to show us time future Frances when our Mac finally does pass on to the mac museum in the sky, My fear is that all the extra interfacing hard drives where we both have copies of our art from many years ago will no longer interface as USB connections
    then what?
Back in the 1950's it was all film and paper which was Ok by me.:)

Good luck with the new mac and the
    mac user school.

  16. Thanks to all you lovely, generous friends who've already left comments here.

I am on a learning curve, but it's a gentle, encouraging curve. It's going to be fun to get more comments, including any advice, and to see what the future will bring.

  20. Hello Frances - sorry it's been a while, I've been struck down again. I'm delighted that you've made a purchase you're happy with. It was thanks to the brilliant Apple staff here that my mum plucked up the courage to kit herself up with an iPad and sneakily get herself online (surprising me later!). I think she would have felt too intimidated in most stores to proceed, so well done them.

  23. Welcome to the Apple eaters!
I’ve just bought myself an IPad and had about an hour’s help from their technical department when I got something wrong.

Apple is brilliant in every way; I just hope they stay the same, only better.

Your lovely bright red apple is a treat too. I hope it tasted as good as it looks.

  27. An Apple! My son-in-law thinks it’s the best computer in the world – you will like it a lot. Your photo is very nice – I also like the patchwork knitting you show under the plate and the plate has an antique look or is indeed an antique – very pretty!
